What It’s Really Like to Work With a Holistic Intuitive Practitioner

When I first signed up for Jennifer Van Allen’s Holistic Intuitive Practitioner (HIP) training, I didn’t know just how deeply it would change my life—not only for me but for everyone I now get to work with.

In this conversation, I sat down with my friend and fellow HIP graduate Emily Edman to reflect on our shared journey and what we’ve learned about healing, transformation, and helping others create real, lasting change.

As I listened back, I was struck by how often people try to “think” their way out of patterns, or to supplement or “willpower” themselves into a different experience of life. This work is different. It engages the subconscious and nervous system directly, allowing transformation to unfold naturally, from the inside out.

Highlights from Our Conversation

Standing in Our Own Authority
Emily shares how she went from being “super quiet” and not fully standing in her authority, to feeling grounded and confident in her choices. For both of us, the HIP training felt like coming home to ourselves.

Healing at the Root
We talked about how the HIP method helps clients shift at a deep cellular and subconscious level, rather than just managing symptoms. For example, Emily shared a client story about supporting a child with car sickness naturally, and helping another client move through grief with Bach flowers.

The Breadth of This Work Our training covered modalities like astrology, gene keys, human design, Traditional Chinese Medicine, survival resource patterns, and visualizations. It gives us tools to work with a wide range of issues—from physical symptoms to emotional patterns and even relationship dynamics.

My Own Surf Anxiety Breakthrough
I shared how Emily supported me through a crippling fear of bigger waves. After just one session, I could go into the water with ease and joy again. I still have a healthy respect for the ocean, but that intense panic has completely lifted.

Beyond Talk Therapy

One thing we touched on is the difference between this work and traditional talk therapy. While therapy can be helpful for insight, HIP focuses on gently rewiring the nervous system and subconscious patterns so change happens at a much deeper level. It’s not about endlessly revisiting the past, but about helping your system feel safe to move forward.
